Layoffs are very frequent, happening in mass about once every 2 years. Blue Shield has laid off over 15% of it's staff over the past year, claiming it's a budget issue. The company does not care about the well-being of any employees besides executives. Executive compensation and bonuses has increased greatly in the past few years, which caused Blue Shield to lose it's non-profit tax exempt status. (This is all public data).
The company claims to be about a mission of affordable health care, yet internally executives care about nothing but their paycheck. They will get screw over as many employees (and Blue Shield members) as needed in order to ensure they get a big bonus every year. In addition, managers that are incompetent and incapable never get fired, yet rank-and-file employees get fired on a regular basis for minor issues....and then management complains about high turnover.
