Pros
I enjoyed working with extremely talented, hardworking, and dedicated professionals (outside of management). Being associated with this brand will also be excellent for your C.V. in Web3. And although the work culture was largely toxic, I learned a lot of new skills and abilities here.
Cons
Working for this company isn’t for the faint of heart. If you’re unfamiliar with their style of work culture, you’re likely to be in for a shock. Although the brand is attractive and well-known, think very carefully about joining Binance, because the company pushes people to their absolute limit. If you value work life balance or boundaries between work and personal time, you’ll be unhappy at Binance. It’s not unusual to work nights, weekends and holidays, and the notion of overtime pay would be laughable to your overlords. I was hired to primarily work with a core team consisting of three other professionals. Three months into my tenure, they had all been fired or resigned from Binance. A large proportion of their job responsibilities fell to me. You might expect an increase in responsibility and scope of work would entail a revised contract, but that’s not how it works at Binance. As cutbacks and turnover destroy teams, any work leftover is simply dumped onto whoever remains. They frame this as an opportunity to prove how ‘hardcore’ you are. That’s a Binance propaganda term describing the ideal employee who’s available 24/7, has no life outside of work, and regularly takes on more responsibility for no personal gain. I’ve seen firsthand how the emphasis on being ‘hardcore’ turns, enthusiastic colleagues completely miserable, anxious and stressed. At the end of the day, working at Binance isn’t slavery and everyone is entitled to leave if the culture and work life balance doesn’t suit them. But for those who are passionate about the industry and are dedicated to growing Binance, the pressures and stresses of this culture seem almost inhumane. When I described my experiences at this company to my friends and family, they expressed concern and worry for me. I don’t think it’s sustainable or healthy. The only reason I continued for so long is because I knew having this brand on my C.V will help my career in the future.
