Pros

Big Communications, a Birmingham-based communications agency, is one of the most innovative and purpose-driven places to work within the Magic City. The agency is filled with staff passionate about supporting Birmingham's revitalization and enhancing the state of Alabama's overall image. Big consistently proves itself as the rightful past recipient of AdAge's Small Agency of the Year by exhibiting work for national, regional and local companies on their client list. Not only does Big display award-winning work in a variety of areas, including automotive, financial services, government and public affairs, manufacturing and retail, healthcare and more, but the people who walk through Big's doors every day make a difference. Listed on Big's staff roster are multiple award winners in both the advertising world and the community alike. Within Big's walls, the company offers a mentorship program, book club, yoga classes, and even culture club - where staff members join together to celebrate events, offer professional development opportunities and even provide staff-wide lunches from time to time. All of these added amenities at Big are cost-free and made available to any employee, making Big a top-competitor in the workforce and a staff favorite within its walls on 2nd Ave.

Cons

Big is not a place where the idle will feel comfortable and succeed. Big is full of driven, passionate employees all wanting and willing to do the work to make the difference. "Good enough" is never enough at Big - where all staff members go above and beyond to produce the best quality of work in each cliental category. If you are not comfortable with giving it your all, you are not comfortable at Big.

Pros

The office is fancy, computers and tools are provided for everyone, and I really enjoyed getting to know the team. I would give my experience a 1 star if it weren't for some of the people. Jake Odom specifically. Great leader and creative. I felt I learned a lot from working with him and appreciated his encouragement. Good dude!

Cons

I felt used, and like I was one of the few people there passionate about design besides my direct superiors. Expected to work late, only to be laid off for "financial reasons", despite constantly being praised for my "exceptional designs". Not my favorite job, especially after I saw other people getting credit for work I directed/designed that was posted to LinkedIn right after my exit. Maybe that is normal, I found it weird and rude. I was also let go 1 week before a 2 week vacation I had planned months in advance. Didn't even get to use my first year PTO lol.
