Pros

You get to learn a lot about different sports, the training is enough to get you by for helping kids pick out bats/gloves and recommend shoes to customers. The best part is the customer interaction. If you love talking to people, this is the job! You won't get paid much for it, and management might get mad that you interact too much and sometimes don't get things done. But you get to meet lots of people! There are some great managers though, shout out to Jason A. who actually made an impact on me while I was working there. His mind is in the right place for this job and he actually cares about developing his employees and meeting management targets by employing the right practices! If you get the chance to work with him, take it and use this time to LEARN from him!!! This same statement goes for Roger S., he is way too good for this company but he never shows it. He is humble, willing to help and a great marketer. Also I really enjoyed the LP manager, Tony. He was always approachable, available and mentored me on proper LP practices to better myself and the store. Pro - assistant manager looks great on a resume.

Cons

I personally had some altercations with horrible managers, store and first assistants. The trainee program is either too long or too short, you'll get promoted before you're ready or you are there for too long and they don't know how to tell you that you won't cut it. But who cares, it's an extra dollar to do the same things. Sometimes you just go the extra mile and make a great presentation in your department, but the supervisors will hate it. This is the clearance stores for the sports stores, so expect dirty, jam-packed shelves with extra product or outdated clearance product. Not a living wage for assistant managers. The shifts are long and strange hours (9-530, 10-630, 1-10). Get ready for the 130-10 shift A LOT for first and second managers.
