Pros
- Unlimited income potential - Opportunity to connect with community business owners - Not a bad opportunity if you already have a full bank account and have a lot of time to work toward making more money
Cons
They will hire just about anybody because they know that most people don't make it. The opportunity is highly misrepresented. They will work diligently to convince you that literally anyone is cut out for cold selling, when this often isn't the case. You receive zero investment from the company up front. This position is entirely as an independent contractor. They will tell you that up front, but then will persuade you that the position is really a good fit for everyone unless you're just lazy and uncommitted. This position is entirely work-from-home, another aspect that was neglected until it was passively implied during their one or two days of training. From their one or two days of unpaid training and the opportunity to listen to conference calls of people discussing their successes, you are entirely on your own. There are no leads provided, you are responsible for creating your own list of hundreds of businesses to cold call, from which you are supposed to set a certain number of appointments, from which you are supposed to make a certain number of sales. There have been other reviews that have compared this business to an MLM or Pyramid structured company. While this is not strictly correct due to the fact that contractors are only paid through selling ads and not through referrals, the fashion in which the company operates is eerily similar. Those who are in management (higher on the pyramid?) use Glassdoor and other sites to make themselves seem more reputable and safe to work for than they really are, but the fact of the matter is this job, or I guess independent contractor position or whatever they want to call it, is highly unstable, and often puts people in compromised positions when the magazine that was supposed to go to print in a few months, never actually happens. Oftentimes people will work at it for months and deplete their savings and end up in a desperate position with no help from management aside from an occasional phone call and no safeguards in place to make sure that this doesn't happen. The culture is very intense and those who do manage to climb up high enough to break even and be successful are extremely dogmatic and defensive when it comes to protecting the pristine reputation they have fabricated for the company. They know that the main reason intelligent people fall for this business is because of Glassdoor. Not having any income whatsoever from a job that requires a full time commitment for up to a year before you see anything in return is very dangerous. The fact that this company only discusses those who are top performers and always neglects to mention how often people actually struggle in this position is very manipulative. In fact, out of a company that has hundreds and hundreds of "employees", only a handful of the absolute most successful are ever heard from or about on any conference calls. The techniques that this company employs to bolster its growth are dishonest, manipulative, and highly unethical. They are extremely defensive whenever a negative review is posted, and will do whatever it takes to lure you in so that they can use you to grow their business. If you are considering working for this company, I implore you, look at the bad reviews on Glassdoor and not just the unrealistically positive ones. Also look at how the company has responded to those negative reviews. If I had taken the time to thoroughly look at all that was written I could have saved myself from one of the worst experiences of my life.
