Pros

Good people/ employees/ coworkers. Not management

Cons

Low pay, VERY strict in-office culture. Things were really great, until they weren't, and it happened quick. The new culture is very heavy on not being able to work from home, their postings even say you can work from home one day a week "when it makes sense." AKA they don't want you working from home. It is heavily implied that they don't trust their employees even though their employees are the only ones that get the work done. Management is very top heavy (why does an underwriter need 4-5 levels of management in a 150 person company??) and they seem to conspire how to implement more strict rules while making employees believe it is for their own good and development. They are also consistently promoting people who are NO good in management which shows where loyalties lie, with people who drink the kool-aid and will enforce their prison-like rules with no questions asked. And when you are in their office (which is full-time, non-flexible), you are within their prison and their rules and they make it known. Pay is low, flexibility is almost non-existent, managers can be nice and approachable but are unable to actually support you because it is all top-down management and its very very clear this company only cares about return to shareholders. I have seen good managers be bullied into submission and its a lose-lose for both of us. My performance reviews were 'exceeding/above average' and I never received more than a 1% bump, even after the company became 'profitable' after its start-up stage, when we were promised we would receive more pay. In fact, the year the company was 'profitable' and I had my strongest performing personal year was the year I got my lowest ~1% bump. Most companies do only really care about returns - but this company doesn't make it a secret any longer and my manager literally apologized to me when I was told my 'increase,' because they knew I deserved more but their hands were tied. Your pay, work-life flexibility, and development will come second to their unachievable bottom lines and then they will use those unachievable goals as justification to not pay you above your below-average salary. Funny how they promote 'profit sharing' but then won't share profit when the company does well. The President is a nice enough lady on the surface, but considering she allows all of the above to happen and is OK with it (she's not stupid so can't play dumb), I can only come to the conclusion that she is fake and I cannot recommend her, her management, or her company. Most of these people are fired Chubb employees and have taken the worst of Chubb to create the 'culture' here. RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pros

Berkley One is a high-performing environment with really strong talent across the organization. A lot of people come here because of the opportunity. If you want to make an impact, you can. You are not a cog in the wheel. In my experience, you almost have to trip over yourself not to get opportunity here. There is a real entrepreneurial mindset, and people’s opinions genuinely matter, regardless of level. That shows up in how teams work together and how decisions get made. One thing that stands out to me is the culture. There is not a sense of cliques, managing up, or a boy's club. People are recognized for what they contribute and how they show up, not for playing politics, which matters. From a leadership perspective, my experience has been very different than what is sometimes described. Expectations are high, but they are clear, and there is accountability across the board. There is a genuine focus on building a strong, sustainable business and doing things the right way. One of the biggest reasons I joined and continue to stay is our President. It is rare in this industry to have a female leader at that level who is both incredibly strong from a business perspective and genuinely cares about people. She knows her team, not just what you do, but your family, your life, what matters to you. That is not common in larger organizations, and it creates a culture where people actually feel seen and valued. When you find leadership like that, you do not leave it. We are also unapologetically an in-person company (with 1 flex day at home each week), and I believe that is a big part of why the culture is as strong as it is. There is a level of collaboration that comes from being side by side that is hard to replicate. Flexibility and how we work best is still an ongoing conversation, but in practice I have seen a lot of teams find ways to balance performance and what people need, with a strong focus on being accountable to each other. There continues to be a real investment in talent. The company is willing to hire experienced people and train new, pay competitively, and continue building out the organization in a thoughtful way.

Cons

As Berkley One continues to grow at a rapid pace, there are times where attracting and onboarding the right talent struggles to keep up with that growth, which can create pressure on teams. The culture is very relationship-driven, which is a strength, but it can also feel almost too familial at times. People care deeply about the business and each other, and that level of investment can sometimes blur lines or make it harder to step back and recharge.

Pros

Good coworkers. Morristown is nice

Cons

Senior leadership is HORRIBLE. Lower level coworkers are generally great people. Some lower level management are as well. But the higher ups are toxic, petty, mean people. HR is as fake as a 3 dollar bill and does all the dirty work for the “president,” who is nice to people’s faces but is just as fake. They obsessively watch your LinkedIn activity and reprimand you for ‘liking’ anything not to do with them. They are mean girls. They promote a fun, hybrid culture but are full time in-office with no flexibility. Everyone is stressed, overworked, and behind and then they use that as justification to deny time off, even in cases of emergency including childcare. You will be held responsible for any slacking coworkers and again, denied time off because of it. They have had trouble hiring the past year so I hear they have upped salary offers due to this, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that they can’t retain any good people and have lost a plethora of really amazing workers over avoidable scenarios and circumstances. Bad, shameful leadership. And they know of this feedback and continue to choose to act this way.
