Pros

It was a great place to learn and grow. Pretty much everyone there was brilliant and were great to work with, around or for.

Cons

Capsugel bought Bend Research and drastically changed the culture. It seemed like the best people left because they knew what was coming. Bend Research is/was a huge part of the community, but it seems like Capsugel only cares about the bottom line.

Pros

- Co-workers are congenial and willing to help, makes the day go by a lot faster. - As a scientist, you are given a great amount of responsibility over internal and client projects - Many team building activities both inside and outside of work including ultimate frisbee, running during lunch. - Great place to start as someone who is entry-level or just beginning their career. - Management fairly understanding and willing to address employee concerns with issues in the lab. - Free breakfast on Fridays, although I'm not sure if that is still ongoing as the company has changed slightly since the merger with Capsugel

Cons

- Wages may be slightly less competitive compared with competitor's for the same title and position. - Hours can be long on some weeks

Pros

Great people - they hire friendly, outdoorsy, younger scientists who make work fun. Good benefits (which have diminished some since being acquired). The lab is in a beautiful location. They're willing to hire entry level people and train them on a variety of instruments so I would recommend them as a good first job.

Cons

They expect a lot out of you, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, until you work your butt off and get no recognition. Salary is much lower compared with most of the industry but they justify it because "you get to live in Bend" - that was a direct quote at my exit interview. It is definitely a boys club, so if you're a woman, be prepared to be given fewer opportunities. If you're experienced, this may not be the best place for you.
