Pros

Niche focus on professional service firms. Great clients. Instant client exposure because it's a boutique firm. Intellectually stimulating work.

Cons

Boutique firm means you are doing above and beyond the norm without appropriate recognition. No clarity on career trajectory. Performance reviews are tools used by management to assert some control on your growth in title and salary (would also put this down to poor expectation management). Surprisingly high staff churn rate for a boutique firm. All ex-employees (who have left on good or not so good terms) were classified as "not good enough" or "didn't make the cut". Profit focus environment at the detriment of culture.

Pros

The flexibility of the schedule

Cons

The mid level management at my location was more interested in being his employees friend than being their boss.

Pros

Variety of clients, work types, principals with who I work. Intellectual challenges every day. New tasks to do with autonomy.

Cons

Not enough training on the job. Every job should have clear aims for staff learning and feedback. Narrow niche limits career opportunities.
