As the company is growing, the culture is changing as well. They restructured the marketing organization without much input from directors and managers that led to demotions and pay decreases for people who had been with the company for several years. It did not sit well with most employees, let alone the leaders who got significant pay cuts with no advance notice or suggestion of it being performance related. Instead of promoting internally, they’ve brought on a bunch of outside hires in even though several employees are qualified for or have shown interest in these roles. It’s starting to feel like a different company than the one I originally started working for and it pains me to see them demoting these major leaders who were key to Bamboo’s success for so many years.
The company always says that they know their employees can make more money elsewhere but their employees choose to work here because of the culture. They pride themselves in offering middle of the road but fair salaries. I didn’t realize how underpaid I was, however, until I started interviewing elsewhere. Most other jobs for my same position were offering salary ranges up to 50% more than what I was currently making, and that was the norm. It’s one thing to be underpaid by 5-10k. It’s another to be underpaid by 40-50k.
I’m not entirely sure what it’s like in other organizations outside of marketing, but for a company that takes so much pride in providing a positive employee experience, it’s starting to feel like they are putting some of their most loyal employees on the back burner.
