Great pay considering company size. Isolated from rest of dance community. Very unorthodox work environment - Dancer Ballet Austin Employee Review

Pros

Small tight knit community. Compensation is good if you have previous work experience. Company's small size means everyone does meaningful work. Good hours, 9-5. Five days a week. 35 weeks of work.

Cons

Men paid more than women. Rehearsal period 6 weeks long for 1 performance week. Company employs very idiosyncratic technique that disallows work elsewhere in the field unless it is reversed upon departure. Repertory is 80% directors choreography, remaining 20% is cheap an not particularity historically significant or cutting edge when newer.

Pros

Things might be better for those in remote roles.

Cons

Morale is abysmally low. I second another reviewer's observation that offices and studios are gross and outdated. I also second that there's drama and backstabbing. Not worth the trouble. No work life balance. Philanthropic/nonprofit efforts are more for optics and less about actual community care. Salaries are just enough to scrape by. This place is not open to new ideas and is losing its relevance.
