Pros
If you've been in the financial service industry for awhile and perfer a 9 to 5 job to pick up a pay check this is the ideal company for you.
Cons
Where do I start, I can only speak of the Bank of New York's senior management and not of Mellon's (due to the merger). Some of the worset senior managers I have ever seen, ever. Senior Management is more interested in protecting their own terriority than actually getting the job done. There are very few in management who actually knows their own product line. True Story. In one of the department's town halls during a Q&A a team supervisor asks one of the heads of the department on how is that one of their subordinates have a higher (much higher) salary than they do. And what steps, presently and in the future, is the company doing to correct this? The department head responded with a bunch corporate cliches of course about being competetive and attracting "Top Talent" but he didn't answer the question so the next question that was asked was a follow up to the previous question. He seemed peved at this point and went on to answer the question "Well if you're not satisified with your salary, the only way you'll get a salary increase is to leave the bank and come back." And this was a Global Town Hall. I can go on and on of such stories. If this company was not a landmark company it would've gone down years ago.
