Pros
I have worked in BIT Systems as Engineer for multiple years and in multiple groups. The works that you are assigned to do here are technically intense and challenging, which is desirable to any enthusiastic and hardworking engineers. When I was there the benefits were excellent - health insurances were on the higher side, but the retirement contribution was 25% of base salary, which is very rare. Moreover, we could cash out unused PTOs. However, they used to lowballed employees to make that even. I have heard that they are recently (October 2023) moving to more traditional benefit package structure. Being a relatively small company, they are usually prompt and there are less red-tape involved and we could communicate to upper management easily.
Cons
Although technically sound, being primarily a Federal contractor, they are way behind than the cutting-edge Silicon Valley technologies. So, working here for few years will turn an engineer backdated and out of touch to the concurrent world. Work experience depends on the team you are in and manager you are working under. No concept of team work (at least in one of the groups I worked). People often try to compete each-other, rather than prioritizing mission accomplishment, Often tasks are assigned to any individual and from there on he/she is on his/her own peril. Minimum team work or collaboration. Most of the managers are pretty young and have less managerial (or life) experience. They were made managers simply because they were better engineers. However, managerial tasks and technical tasks requires distinct and exclusive independent skillset. The managers often tend to micromanage. I have found that the managers often favor some employees over the others and serves the interest of those selected people that he/she has good terms, than serving the greater interest of the customers.
