Pros

Astbury Marsden used to be highly regarded competitor and was one of the reasons why I decided to join this place over other offers but my god was I wrong. There are some talented individuals there that will really go places --- but they have to leave to realise their full potential. Back-office support / finance team are legendary Client base is still decent

Cons

Where do I begin !!!!! The company is run by a group of shareholders who have not run a recruitment business before. By making the last MD redundant --AM lost a lot of great consultants to their competitors -- J Nicholson built a great legacy and instead of the board allowing him to move forward they constricted this and decided to increase base profit not by increasing sales but by letting people go. Was fundamentally an IT recruitment business but the new MD who does not have an IT background is not really interested in increasing their market share. It seems like the panic buttons have been pushed and they are trying to do quick spot business rather than deliver long-standing relationships. There is no real buzz on the floor and it is very hard for juniors to get trained properly.

Astbury Marsden Response

Thank you for your feedback on your experiences at Astbury Marsden. As a business, we have been through a huge amount of change over the last year (like most growing businesses will experience). It has not always been easy, but we truly believe the right building blocks are in place for a sustainable platform of growth over the mid to longer term. Our shareholders have extensive experience running recruitment businesses, and we believe they are well positioned to provide the support and guidance we need to grow and develop into a strong and successful business. In response to your concerns, at the end of last year we recruited an Associate Director, who has a wealth of experience within technology and has been made responsible for growing the function. He has already made strong inroads to building new markets and functions and has made a number of additional hires to build out our presence in this area. We have also implemented a new programme of internal and external training to ensure that everyone from Associate Consultant (trainee) to Director level has the support and training they need to succeed within our firm. We are sorry that you feel you didn’t have a good experience here, but we wish you the best of luck in your future endeavours.
