Pros

Take my review with a grain of salt, as I'm Apto's main recruiter, but here are my thoughts: I like the lack of snobbery on the engineering team. Our engineering manager does not nitpick what schools candidates went to, or what companies they are coming from, he is solely interested in seeing some one's competence with computer science fundamentals, and if they would fit in well with the team. Communication from upper management is great - we are always kept up to date on what's going on in the macro. Lastly, I think it's important for a company to have an interesting mission, that certainly makes my life easier when recruiting. "Democratizing Payments" is often our catch-phrase, and I believe it's a mission worthy of attention and personally find it pretty interesting. Lastly, I think most people would appreciate the work-life balance here. Yes, we are a startup, but we've been around for a while and have things sorted out pretty well. No crazy 70-80 hour works weeks. A reasonable unlimited vacation policy.

Cons

None to share at this time. I would mention that from a candidate perspective, we have turned away people who are VERY technically proficient in their given area, but aren't exactly great at communicating or collaborating during the interview process. This could be a source of frustration for those who believe that is all that matters when applying for a position.
