Management above store level are clueless, completely ungrateful and apathetic towards their staff. Not so much as a thank you; considering the volume of sales I made during my time there I put a lot of money in a lot of people's pockets yet the only time you speak to anyone above store level is to be complained at that you haven't completed a certain small task. Joined the store with an allowance of 210 staff hours, that got reduced to 155 and then expected the same level of output when they also give you more work to do in the form of being an extension of their online sales team. Cut store managers bonus in half which was pitiful as it was. Constantly having to apologise to customers for the embarrassingly low level of stock on a frequent basis, who knew a golf shop needed golf balls to sell? Ladies clothing is nearly non existent and being reminded of that on a weekly basis by a customer or two calling you sexist for having no options which is not a choice of anyone at store level but instead a clueless buying team that thinks the store would benefit from stocking kids water bottles that failed to sell at their holiday camps rather than stocking the shop with useful equipment like tees. You won't find progressive attitudes here, just a vicious attempt to protect the shareholders 35% at whatever detriment to the store functionality. Frequently left alone on shift because sick cover isn't allowed, your colleague calls in sick? Tough. Absolutely zero support from higher management. Problematic staff members are allowed to do whatever they want because they will never be disciplined outside of the store as it's just an awkward interaction they don't want to have. Aggressive, threatening emails sent by higher management which I believe is used as a delusional method of motivation. If you have to say "this is not a threat" in a email, you best believe that it's a threat. Constantly being told to "watch this space" when requesting new stock or an improvement in working conditions. Which always comes to nothing. Stores that sell by volume rather than percentage of targets are always motivated and encouraged because they can more easily make up the shortfall of the rest of the stores so all the attention is given to those in the top 20%. Hit your target by 50%? Doesn't matter to anyone but yourself because the success of the region is down to 4 or 5 stores. Forget the other 20. That's why some stores never get a visit because the company just does not care, absolutely zero encouragement. Just get sent a few hard hats to wear in the warehouse basement because the breeze blocks attached to the ceiling had started to fall down and nearly struck a colleague. The negligence is very nearly criminal.
