Pros

Good work-life balance, can work home on Fridays and some days during the week. Taking vacation is easy

Cons

HR does not know what other groups are doing (ei. What the groups bonus policy). The company is very rigid, you are not up for promotion until you are in your position for 18 months and even then you have to interview for the position against other canditates. Compensation is below market and anyone who is not a manager or above (band 35 or higher) does not get a bonus even if you doing a managers job. It is very hard to move from one group to another (Global travel to consumer cards to loyalty programs). The health benefits are horrible and vacation time is good but the total number of days off are less than what they say - they include holidays so if they tell you 23 days off its really only 14, 9 days are holidays.

Pros

They have fantastic pay for the position you're in, and they teach you interesting and engaging utility of modern technology mixed with legacy fundamentals. I've learned quite a bit while AmEx while getting paid more than fairly - I'd recommend a stretch here to whomever may be reading this!

Cons

The Company is huge, and at times it may take more than a little time to get recognized for your abilities and the growth you've had. There's a reason there is a "only way up is out" reputation exists for some enterprise companies...
