Pros

The people I worked with, my colleagues, were some of the most wonderful people I have ever met and were great people to work with. There was a true collegial spirit of helpfulness and team spirit. I had several good managers throughout my career there and there were several people who were leaders without the title. I learned much in the field of human services through several challenging assignments and much about adults with developmental disabilities through the individuals I worked with. If you want to grow in this field, you will get several opportunities to work with different disabilities, by just volunteering to work anywhere they send you. I worked with more than 100 different clients in 14 years by asking them to send me anywhere. There are no shortage of challenges when it comes to working with adults with disabilities. I think Ambitions takes on everyone they think they can help.

Cons

Sometimes they take on clients with such disruptive or violent behaviors the staff is not trained to deal with and that causes burnout--and sometimes staff injuries. There is too much politicking in the management ranks, especially when it comes to hiring incompetent or lazy managers or firing good employees for vague or seldom enforced rules violations. Management tends to be arbitrary about which rules to enforce and does not back up employees when clients accuse staff of abuse--meaning, they tend to accept clients accusations without investigating them thoroughly.

Cons

-High turnover among both direct-care staff and office leadership created ongoing instability. -Chronic understaffing often placed excessive pressure on long-term employees and difficult sites. -Training consistency and accountability varied significantly between staff and locations. -Communication between frontline staff and management could be inconsistent, especially regarding compliance and operational expectations. -High-stress environment with frequent burnout and retention challenges.
