Pros
They take new grad PAs (which is great since it's hard to get into Emergency Medicine in NYC), about 2K in CME reimbursement. The attendings and PAs who work at St. John's Episcopal are wonderful and supportive. You really get to learn the knit and gritty of medicine, to think critically, and to operate in a-less-than-optimal environment
Cons
No PTO and no formal training, but you're essentially training on the job. St. John's Episcopal Hospital is a stand alone hospital in a low socioeconomic area, so resources are not as great. They're always in need of shift coverage. Did not receive a pay raise or additional pandemic compensation for working through COVID. Also, Alteon Health furlowed NPs/PAs in another hospital after they worked through the peak of the pandemic in 2020
