1) While AlphaSights is a great business, it’s not a great place to work. The product is incredibly low tech, and the burden of doing work manually falls on the lowest level employees — the associates and the managers. As a result you’ll consistently work 10-12 hour days nonstop, go home to an inbox full of urgent emails, and spend your weekends experiencing the same. While this is expected in some industries, working at AlphaSights is NOT banking or consulting, in neither the skills acquired nor the pay.
2) Expensive company parties and events, a flashy office, and surface-level perks seem very enticing, but these things do not matter and can not replace a truly valuable work experience — mentorship from people with diverse experience, earning potential, and a true path — as you develop your career. These valuable things are nearly impossible to find at AlphaSights.
3) The last and arguably most important major con about working at AlphaSights is that it can be incredibly difficult to find other career opportunities after being at the company for a few years. Some of the skills you develop at AlphaSights translate well to sales or account management roles, but should you be interested in other career paths, you may find yourself starting from scratch or going back to school. AlphaSights is in such a niche industry that recruiters and potential employers have a hard time seeing how you would be a valuable addition to their teams.
