Pros

You get a MacBook Air and a free trip to Austin.

Cons

Just set these expectations and your soul won’t be crushed. Only got feedback, not the good kind, when I challenged my “boss”, used in the loosest term, leadership in there is non existent. Expect to get balled out if anyone is threatened by you, I was subjected to an hour long one on one diatribe about how rubbish I was by a "manager", perhaps some deep adequacy issues. Ineffective antiquated car salesman sales tactics, not everyone wants you to haggle down with with them. Shock horror this leads to really high staff turnover of really good professional sales people. Ample time for management to play with their Playstation in Cork office though. Camaraderie is non existent unless you meet the cool criteria. Unfortunately if you don’t agree with the “management” this means you do not meet the criteria. Not very open to listening to people that don’t subscribe to the “play hard, work hard” 13 year olds idea of what a sales office is supposed to be like. Think long and hard about a “career” here, because it doesn’t exist.

Pros

- Fantastic company culture. "Work smarter, not harder" culture means that the company values employee's personal time but is focused on actually getting things done. - The company hosts a very diverse (age, ethnicity, background) population, lending itself to a refreshingly different style of startup than the ex-Facebook/Google brogrammer environment you see at other successful startups nowadays. - Really no competition. AlienVault's job is to teach the market why integrated security makes sense. If there wasn't a good story there this would be a huge negative. But with their product and solutions it's a big positive and lends itself to a "sandbox" environment for their product team. - Personable and approachable executive team.

Cons

- Despite the company growing beyond its humble startup origins, we're still learning how to instrument things like expense reporting in a scalable way. - To accomplish the "work smarter, not harder" mentality the company is populated by some very strong and ambitious personalities. The environment is not contentious or "Game of Thrones-y" by any means, but you will need to be very personally motivated in order to keep up. - Security is a hard field to get into unless you're genuinely interested in it. People here care a lot about security, so you should be similarly motivated (or interested enough to learn).
