Pros

So where do I begin? There are some really good people and people who have great skills and experience. Sometimes working day to day the employees don't realize how good they are at what they do. Leadership is very progressive while seasoned employees are very loyal and traditional. It was a fun place when I worked there. They recently promoted a damn good person in Accounts Receivables that is now the credit manager that is really good at her job. Estimating is a great bunch especially their manager who would take turns with me in making sure the Keurig machine was working in the morning. The Comptroller always had something fun to say in and out of meetings but she knows her stuff as she taught a finance class to key employees. That's the thing.....I'm headed somewhere here because they really do try to convey good process. If you pay attention...…(if you find yourself in this company then you can count yourself lucky)…..you will learn something that will make you better then the other team out there. The process guy.....he can recite a manual that he's probably written to you....100 times the same with eyes closed while drinking some lemon zinger. That's one sweet drink let me tell you. I tried lighting a cigar once in one of our conferences in Vegas....took him 30 seconds and me 5 minutes but I'm sure he forgot about that. The VP there is one of the coolest guys I've met......he is an efficiency guy. He knows how to boost morale and always stumps you with a question in your field that you thought you'd know. He drives new initiatives and he follows up well. He always had the coolest shirts. Let me tell you though....he counts on everyone there communicating and working well with one another. From Branch to Branch to Corporate. He is always visiting other operation in North America to make sure they are doing things the best way. Their head sales manager was awesome....good trainer and funny guy. He's brought in some good talent and they are generally positive people as well. So if you are in sales and your good at it I'd shoot HR an email with your experience and if you have a following. Alexander is a really good company that backs up a contractor in any projects they are a part of. Illinois is a tough market but they have some great location managers from Champaign to Elkhorn to Joliet to Oconomowoc. There are a lot more stores but those are my favorites. :D The President.....he is a leader....adventurous...experienced and competitive in the industry. Above all though he always finds a way to challenge the team....he definitely cares about the customers and makes sure the team does as well. When I would say good luck he would always say he didn't need it because he has a plan. He's half Captain Kirk and Part Han Solo. Or Part Kirk and Part Gordon Ramsey because he can whip up a mean chili. In my past stint I worked for a President who was also President of the National Lumber Dealer's association. He said you could tell who could become one of those President's by how a president's office looked. This one has a pretty cool wall. Now there is a tall guy I worked with that was really into his computer, the cubs and I think he had stock in Burger King. While he thinks I wasn't paying attention to what he did....I did....so thank you to him for indirectly showing me things. The purchasing team on the other hand had stock in Chili's since that was their favorite conference room but they kept Alexander going when things were rough and they keep Alexander winning. Keeping stock replenished and controlling cost is a hard thing in a commodities market. They have a seasoned pro that's twilighting now but he always shares his knowledge in meetings. There was a bookkeeper that was accountant/hr/insurance and morale booster for the traditionalists. She had a lot of experience and she was always on point with benefit recommendations. Awesome person and good people around her supporting her too. So you see where I am headed with my book report review? If you are reading this....and you have the ability to learn yet question things for the better....and you have confidence in your abilities and skills....I'd apply. They've added people to their roster from outside the industry and from the inside. You'll know your stuff after working here a bit. Just be a sponge....pay attention....ask questions and live fire after your check ins with your supervisor. Now in this industry.....competitors always makes rumors so my advice is just do your job well because the rest is just noise. There are others I didn't mention but know that they all treated me well and I hope they continue to be successful. And why I don't work there anymore? Well I chose to work from a home office where the weather is dry which can be cured by a mojito. I was an Alexander employee....and like many others that work there and those that use to.....we take the lessons that we received and we try to be better and smarter and have some fun while we're doing it. It is the Alexander way. I make it back to the Midwest from time to time so maybe I'll read a review from a future new hire. Good luck!

Cons

Commute if you live far from your work location but not much cons.
