Pros
Is a stable company. Has diverse product and process lines. There are many choices for work locations. Has a strong emphasis on safety. Some people are chosen to have opportunities for professional development.
Cons
Very impersonal. When Alcoa purchased the company I worked for, all teams were eliminated and replaced with vertical hierarchies that made employees compete against each other for promotions or positive performance reviews. Most people have no professional development. Only very select individuals are allowed to publish, attend conferences, or openly communicate outside of the company. In general, management shares company news or changes only after they appear in a press release. Normally hear any company news by grape vine. They have replaced their good benefits and pension program with "competitive" ones.
