Pros

Ahtna used to be an excellent company to work for. Now, well...It's employment... The paychecks are steady. Some of the subsidiaries are better employers than others, but all are puppets of what has become a very greedy Board of Directors. I worked there almost 15 years and left on my own accord.

Cons

Recently had the most profitable years ever. The board in their infinite wisdom chose to fire all of the Sr. Management that brought them that success. The new team does not know how to manage ANC's or Federal contacts. Seems like in recent years the board has gotten greedy and is taking more and more from the employees in favor of the shareholders - including jobs that the shareholders are not qualified to hold. They want to call themselves an Employer of Choice while offering no perks that would get them that distinction. In recent years bonuses and pay increases have all been cancelled and they are now opting for a more of a performance type bonus which allows them to throw an employee a bone without raising their annual pay. Few opportunites for advancement.

Pros

Opportunities for growth, because turnover is high. Fair pay. Flex work schedule.

Cons

Staff commonly refer to it as “the dumpster fire”. Management is always too busy dealing with emergencies to fix bad systems that create emergencies. People who have been there too long are allowed to do whatever they want and treat others very poorly. Constant discussions of restructuring and large scale overhauls, but the people who stay are not open to change. Bully behavior is common and goes unaddressed or is even celebrated. Workloads for some are light and others can be completely unmanageable. High turnover compounds this issue.
