Pros

The mission of the organization attracts top talented which is reflected in the rolodex of impressive people who have worked there. Unfortunately most of those folks leave rather quickly or are let go, or asked to signed NDAs and paid severance in exchange for their departure.

Cons

My review was removed so I am submitting a new one because I feel very strongly that anyone with self respect and a hard work ethic steer clear of applying for a job with this organization. This is not just a case of a disgruntled employee. I was warned by a few different respected past workers that it was a poorly run and toxic organization and to not accept the offer to work there. I thought it couldn't be that bad, so I accepted the job anyway. Adventure Scientists might look really fancy on a national or even international stage, but it does not a have a good reputation in the local nonprofit community. Hard work is not fully recognized and the lack of leadership and clarity around work goals leads to burn out among staff. You are pretty much set up to fail at your job, and will be fired once you inevitably do so. I would strongly avoid seeking employment here. It was a really traumatic experience for me.

Pros

I had a great experience working here, and while I saw some other colleagues struggle, I always feel welcomed and appreciated.

Cons

It’s hard to have a hybrid workforce. Keeping morale high and people aware of everything going on is a hard task but it’s clear the organization cares about this.

Pros

Shared interests coworkers made after-work conversations enjoyable.

Cons

Total lack of transparency left employees completely in the dark about the direction of the organization. Everyone simply follows orders and avoids asking questions out of fear of backlash or damaging their reputation. Leadership shuts down curiosity and punished engagement, leaving staff frustrated and powerless.
