Pros
The checks have not bounced Great OR and ER staff A core group of folks who have strong ties to the community and are willing to put up with the cr*p the administrators generate to keep working here. Heroes. Ambulances and a helipad to transfer anyone with more than a cold down to real medical center.
Cons
Full transparency: they terminated my contract ("without cause" or explanation) so I am not unbiased. Then again, I had just received a glowing performance report on the metrics they supposedly count on to measure job performance. Which I think reflect poorly on them. This is a very "resource poor" community, with a very old patient population, and high rates of substance abuse and poverty. The hospital pretends to provide high quality care, but in reality, they do a good job of checking off boxes on national surveys so they can hang banners off the side of the building, The actual care is substandard because retention is a big uphill battle, with hospitals an hour away not only able to pay better, but also provide more consistent hours. I can count on one hand the number of floor nurses here when I started 4 years ago who are still working. And 2 are supervisors. And it may be the applicant pool and the State of Jefferson remote location, but the lack of diversity (except in the cleaning crew) is obvious, particularly for California.
