Always room for growth, but wages aren't livable. Use a job with this company as a stepping stone to greater things. - Assistant Store Manager Advance Auto Parts Employee Review

Pros

You can work almost anywhere. There at Advance stores in over 36 states. Transferring from one store to another is painless. Medical benefits have remained solid despite other parts of the company sliding into corporate oblivion. One of the few retailers who willingly worked with my demanding school schedule when I put myself through my B.A. There is still residual evidence (senior employees) from when it was Parts America in the late '90s, a golden age when only the most knowledgeable parts and automotive people were hired to serve the public. A store that has even one of these individuals still working can do great things.

Cons

This company constantly chases the shareholder model, and it shows in their stock values. Inside is a very different picture. They expect the world of their retail employees, but are not willing to pay for the skills good parts pros and autoworkers possess. You will seldom be told how well you did at something, but you will be constantly reminded of what small things you aren't doing effectively via nagging emails. There is no winning in this organization, and it speaks volumes that most of the assistant managers in my region have no desire to ever take a promotion to Store Manager. They see how poorly GMs are treated, and how many thankless hours are required of the GMs. The company is methodically following every mistake AutoZone has made in a race to the bottom, and it breaks my heart to see.

Pros

A lot of schedule flexibility

Cons

There is a lot of favoritism/bad management, especially in the DC that I work in. (DC-41)

Pros

It’s a pretty easy job, very fun people to work with. Hours as a driver are pretty consistent.

Cons

The pay isn’t great. It would be nice if the drivers were making at least $17 or $18 an hour. Also benefits don’t extend to health insurance only dental and vision if you are only considered part-time. Anybody that isn’t the GM, CPP, and RPP are considered part-time, regardless of the hours you get.
