Pros

This job has been a perfect match for my life right now. I love that I have so much control over how much and when I work. I never feel any pressure to accept clients and really can either say no or yes depending on my schedule. While there is a lot of independence with the job, I know there are resources available to me.

Cons

There are a lot of work opportunities during the school year but gets scarce around holidays and summer. If you are looking for stable, full-time job this might not be the best fit for you. Also, the clients tend to be spread out so there is often a fair amount of travel time involved.

Pros

I have been a tutor with APL for almost 3 years now and had it not been for Shayna, the founder, giving me a chance right out of graduate school, I don’t know where I’d be. Being an APL tutor thoroughly prepared me for being in the classroom full-time as I am now a full-time teacher for a great charter school. All of the experiences I had with students both in and outside the classroom was invaluable. Every training, every tutoring session, and every logging in of notes made me feel super confident to apply and interview for educator positions. Now I am in charge of my own classroom! If you are just out of college or in transition with jobs and looking for something new and rewarding, then try Action Potential Learning. Very friendly staff, full support in your success as a tutor is given and they are always appreciative of the work you do with the students. While it is mostly part-time, it is good pay, flexible schedule and Shayna is great about giving enthusiastic tutors first priority when extra tutoring assignments come up. One year, I worked with two schools every day-- one in the morning and another in the afternoon, which gave me a lot of hours.

Cons

It is mostly part-time work.
