Pros
It’ll build character. Or it will break you. Definitely one of those.
Cons
It’s nothing like what you hear in the interview.
Consistent delays in commission payments and extremely poor, even demeaning, communication around it.
Lack of training or structured onboarding
No functioning HR department, complaints (and extremely serious complaints at that) are routinely mishandled and then forgotten about.
Culture of fear and favouritism
Management completely inept, will do the easy thing over the right thing all day long.
Poor communication around targets and performance feedback
Concerns about how complaints and misconduct are handled (very, very serious)
Compensation well below market rate for comparable roles in Glasgow
Questionable review activity online (5 star reviews on same day as one stars, not a chance)
High stress, little support, and toxic role modelling from the top down
‘Always on’ culture - with none of the upside, fair pay, progress etc. Just demands of your time and excessive pressure.
Unbelievably high attrition rates. Exceptionally poor reputation when speaking to those who either left or had dealings with the company.
One bad quarter, and you’re “replaceable” - even if the last one was record-breaking. Team meetings can be extremely grim and demoralising as a result.
Outdated methods, outdated guidelines. And a weird bottle of water in the kitchen that went out of date in 2022 but no-one dares to bin. Symbolism there.
Everyone competes for the same scraps. Ownership disputes are frequent and unresolved
Unexplained deductions, poor communication from finance, and a general sense that no one knows (or cares) when you’ll actually be paid
Your laptop and phone will have had several previous owners. Lack of capital investment and shocking retention rates combined
Pretty much all of it. Very little by way of positives.
