Pros

This is an organization of under 100 employees which is such a refreshing change from the last place I worked (much larger and more bureaucratic.) Since coming to ASIS, I have rediscovered the fun in my work. Leaders trust their employees and there is very little micromanaging. We have been working remotely for nearly two years now due to Covid, and managers have trusted us to get the job done while also accommodating our personal lives (e.g. kids at home) without any pettiness about exact work hours, etc. I can develop a new idea or project and run with it. Very few barriers, just support from my colleagues in Marketing, Membership, etc. to make it successful. I have a terrific boss and friendly, competent colleagues who are a pleasure to work with. In addition, our CEO Peter really cares about the culture and works hard to be transparent with the staff and members. He shares the good, the bad and the ugly about our finances (impacted by Covid as were all associations) and when he was forced to do layoffs a few years ago, he handled it in the most humane way possible. Instead of making people pack up their desks and leave without any warning, he instead sent a message to the entire staff explaining that these were good employees and the layoffs were due to financial challenges and not their work performance. The people leaving were celebrated and had a chance to say goodbye and leave with dignity. No one likes to be downsized, but if it has to happen, I found this to be a very respectful way to handle it.

Cons

It is a small organization, so there are limited resources. If you like to get creative, do things yourself and have a lot of autonomy and variety-it is perfect. But if you prefer to delegate and hire a lot of consultants, it may not work as well for you.

Pros

Competitive salaries, people are nice, work is moderately-paced, and the average salaried workday is a reasonable 7.5 hours, with only a very occasional need for overtime. The location of the HQ is also excellent, within walking distance to the metro and surrounded by great places to eat lunch. Also, showers/gym are on site.

Cons

IT is more serious about security than most employers, so computers are pretty locked down. Up until 4th quarter 2014, the only browser allowed was IE. Now we can use a limited mostly feature-free version of chrome. However, IT is good at fixing problems, so this inconvenience is not as bad as it sounds.
