Pros
Abiomed is the real deal. I've worked at many places in 20+ years, but this company is the best one. Abiomed really does put Patients First and it is incredibly rewarding to know you are going to work each day to help save the lives of incredibly sick people.
My colleagues are all friendly, helpful, professional and extremely smart. Everyone knows what they are doing and does their job well. I haven't met anyone who is a "slacker" or has an ego. I don't think that would be tolerated.
The management team is extremely dedicated and passionate about improving survival outcomes for our patients. The CEO and other executives lead by example, work hard, care about employees and have created a culture that rewards effort and results.
Abiomed is a learning environment, with a focus on career development, growth and improvement. One interesting thing we do that I haven't seen at other jobs is formal "After Action Reviews." When we finish a project, the team gathers for an After Action Review to review how it went and to look for opportunities for improvement. It is a very constructive and positive way to continuously get better. We are also very goal oriented and each employee has a set of customized goals to work toward achieving each year.
At the headquarters in Danvers, we often have visits from patients who have been helped by Abiomed's product, the Impella heart pump. We also had a patient speak at our holiday party last year and several patients speak at the summer outing this summer. The patients are always incredibly thankful. It is inspiring to actually meet people you are helping through your work. It is a reminder that it is possible to make a difference in the lives of others and make the world a better place.
Cons
Honestly, in order to be successful here, you need to be willing to show up ready to work very hard and give it your best each and every day. Some will see that as a con, others will thrive in that environment.
