      Pros

      The pay is what all truck drivers should be making. The overtime and health benefits are the icing on the cake. You are also guaranteed your breaks due to union rules.

      Cons

      The training was a life changing experience. The union pecking order is a challenge. No set schedule, until you are able to bid on an open position. No guarantee of continued work if there is a layoff. The health benefits are maintained by working a certain number in a specific period of time, which means they are hard to keep if you do not get the hours required.

      Good benefits and lots of opportunities for promotion if you're willing to relocate.

      Pros

      Pay is best in the business. $100,000+ first year as a road driver. Year two I made $107,000… and took two months off for cancer surgery. Year three I made $129,000. I average 2-3 nights per week in a hotel. Usually only 1 night out then back home the next day. Frequently running turns (home at end of the run). Insurance is free and EXCELLENT coverage. I paid $1,000 total out-of-pocket for cancer surgery.

      Cons

      Not much life/work balance. Frustrating spending time on the extra board waiting to get a call to go to work, but with more seniority you get less wait time.
