Pros
You get to immerse yourself within some of the most innovative ideas, surrounded by some of the most brilliant and hard-working individuals. I was in constant awe seeing how much work, effort, and determination some individuals put forth for their companies to succeed. 8VC has a young company culture that creates a fun working environment. Hard work is rewarded, and employees take the time to enjoy themselves.
Plenty of perks/ benefits and not a micromanaging culture.
Cons
Because everyone is working around the clock focusing on their companies, management does not have time to self-reflect and ask for feedback.
I value a humble leader- it's motivating, inspiring and makes me want to work twice as hard. Unfortunately, I feel like the type of culture at 8VC doesn't embody this value.
The company inadvertently creates a clear separation between upper management and the rest of the company. It's challenging to feel part of a team when you are consistently excluded from team activities and various lines of communication. It is sink or swim because no one has time to communicate expectations. Some managers respect and value opinions, but what if you're not the lucky one chosen to work under this type of leadership?
