Cons
I would have to write a huge essay to discuss all the CONS of working at 1901 Group. Someone recently posted a positive review and mentioned "There are some growing pains." Yeah, okay... While I was there 1901 Group burned through 4 service desk managers in like a year and a half. In addition to that, almost all of their long termers have now left the company. The Blacksburg VP of operations, their attorney, more Desktop support and networking support people then I can rattle off. Even their HR people have resigned from the Blacksburg office due to how the place is run/managed. 1901 was recently acquired by a a much bigger organization that didn't do their homework regarding the structure and morale at 1901. It's not a huge surprise really that they can't keep anyone on the service desk. From the time you get there in the morning, till the time you leave in the evening the phones consistently ring and you field call after call after call. 1901 Group preaches ITIL, but there is very very little actual preparation prior to taking on a support contract. The knowledge base articles are often incorrect or not thorough enough, and the analyst on the phone winds up on the short end of the stick. I'm very very glad to be out of there. Positive reviews that get tossed up here now and then are primarily management and HR postings to conceal how much of a sweatshop that place really is.
