Pros

They have a lot of money. They are in a pivotal space that has a lot of potential to grow. The engineering team has an exceptionally talented data engineer.

Cons

The leadership team at the organization has gone through a series of challenges, primarily due to the behavior of the CEO, Max. Max's leadership style, characterized by his need for control and tendency towards micromanagement, has made it difficult for his employees to thrive and reach their full potential. He is driven by personal ambition and a desire for success, rather than a genuine passion for the company's mission or a commitment to problem-solving. Despite his attempts to reshuffle the leadership team, the company continues to face difficulties, with high turnover among key employees. In particular, Max's behavior towards the much younger lead data scientist, Joe, was particularly damaging, as he engaged in petty conflicts that caused a breakdown in their working relationship and ultimately resulted in the departure of this valuable team member. It seemed Max was threatened by Joe’s seemingly higher level of respect within the company and Joe's interest in having more say in the direction of the company. This pattern of behavior speaks to a larger issue with Max's leadership.

Pros

- Some very smart people at the company, especially on the tech team - Ability to work from home

Cons

- No best-ideas-wins culture - CEO refuses to listen to feedback, even from potential and current customers - Management are just yes men for the CEO - Company is playing catch up to other players in the web3 infrastructure space and can't seem to get ahead of the competition and build something that hasn't already been built

Cons

Here's a timeline of the last 2 weeks in 2024 before the majority of the company was laid off: April 15-19: The company held an offsite event in Texas for employees. April 23: The CEO (Max) decided to shut down the SAAS business and pivot the company’s focus toward a hedge fund. April 24-25: Managers informed their teams that the last working day would be Friday, with 3 months of severance offered, and a meeting would be held on Friday to provide further details. April 26 (Morning): Managers updated the teams to inform them that severance would be reduced to one month instead of three. April 26 (Late Morning): A team-wide meeting was scheduled for 4:00 PM EST. April 26 (4:00 PM EST): Employees who were impacted by the layoffs discovered they could not access the meeting, as their accounts had been deactivated from Slack, Google, and other systems. The company attributed this to an "administrative error." However, many employees speculated that this issue was related to the CEO’s inability to address the entire team directly. Now that there is a new CEO, it's unclear what the company does. Most of the team has since departed, making the current state of the culture unclear. This is not the first time in Elementus’ history that a significant portion of the team has been let go or left voluntarily.
