Pros

Reasonable pay, not terrible benefits, good work/life balance

Cons

Any reasonably competent individual will slowly be driven insane working for this institution. It is a god forsaken wasteland of mediocrity in which the status quo can most appropriately be expressed by the phrase "Since that's not technically my job, while I could help you, seeing as I am not formally required to, I will not." Overall, the tone set from the top down is “Good enough” is well good enough. If that describes your world view then this honestly would be a great company to work for. I mean this genuinely. The company more or less does do things “technically” correctly, it just does not do them well or efficiently. Thus, if you just want a job where you go in every day, do your daily tasks and go home without being overly concerned over if what you did really made sense then you’d probably enjoy it there. But if you are the type of person who is looking to constantly improve yourself and your work then you most likely will become extremely frustrated working there and leave. Finally, while slightly tangential, given the importance of IT in a person’s daily work, I feel it relevant to note the following: The IT organization as a whole is atrocious, and mostly useless on account of both their excessively frequent use of the aforementioned phrase and their general lack of adequate training. Half of the requests I sent in ended without an adequate resolution and those that did often took weeks to resolve. I once had a job critical piece of software fail, and it took them over two weeks to get it functional again.

Pros

Great people in support and deployment doing the best they can with what they're given to work with. Rare combination of work/life balance and high compensation for high performers.

Cons

Management is disappointing. Pushes rather than leads. Non existent support, just a burden on your back. Don't expect any mentoring or interest in your professional growth. Cronyism is in full bloom. Blatantly unethical business practices. Comp plan is depressing. No residuals, heavy focus on equipment. There's more, but you get the idea.

Pros

The company offers cake to their employees on the first day of each month to celebrate birthdays. The cake is awful but I guess it's the thought that counts. :)

Cons

The employees are needlessly stressed out because management is lost. Every outage is run as if it's their first with incompetent management lined up behind those that can possibly fix the issue thinking that their presence will resolve issues faster. None proactive. Total disconnect with their head office in Knoxville.
