Pros

- Fortunate to work with a lovely team - discount card

Cons

Focused on maximising profits and cutting costs, no care for their employees it is a very hard run company. As long as profits are high, they are not concerned nor do they want to hear it. No extra's for the hardworking teams that run the shop and very very basic pay for the amount of work they expect from you (managers and supervisors). They take holidays from you if you have not worked your contracted yearly hours but taken more holidays (understandable) but will pay you £1 for ALL the holidays you have missed out on and not had time to take. If your contracted hours fall on an Easter Sunday, Christmas Day etc etc then you have to take it as days holiday. Almost laughable. Rude area manager, there's a huge sence of hierarchy between them and us. Definitely not a company that I can speak highly of when telling others. I am contracted as a sales assistant but expected to do the hours and work of a supervisor/manager on £6.95 an hour.

Pros

Some of the store managers and staff care, and have a great rapport with their customers. Their loyalty, I know, is to the lovely customer base and not to the tainted brand of EWM.

Cons

This is a potentially great business that is shamefully let down by a board of directors that cheat, bully and lie their way in to lining their own pockets at the expense of investment in the business they are supposed to manage. The quality of the store teams is generally exemplary, but the behaviour of the head office is so shamefully awful that even Sports Direct is made to look like a quality employer in comparison. The internal politics are beyond belief, with senior personnel routinely criticising each other, whilst at the same time denying necessary investment, all to please the owner and protect their bonuses. Truly this organisation is horrific. Like a fish, it will rot from the head down and I trust the good people still working there get out before the stench of nastiness and corruption reaches them!

Pros

Discount works in all 4 companies.

Cons

Incompetent area managers. Duplicitous directors and head office workers. Childish, school play ground behaviour from store colleagues. Area managers who are more than happy to discuss private medical/personal information with whoever they think will listen. Favouritism and bullying tactics. Threatening tones and behaviour used at all times from area manager level right up to the top level directors. Directors are outdated and have no interest in driving the business forward or making necessary changes to improve the performance.
