Pros

They pay your health insurance in full. And usually on Friday's there is snacks and booze.

Cons

If you ever walked around a mall and wondered "who the hell designed this, it's horrible!" , then you found the guilty group. Projects are pushed through and are dependent on Schlossberg's full approval (despite him having no architectural education, or any good contemporary design practices) and most of the projects are as diluted and boring as his personal artwork. The company should re-brand themselves as an ad agency as the design work is just as surface, cheap and sugar rushed. Poor management infrastructure, with positions solely dependent on project stability ans schedule, despite client changes. Company culture functions like a generic high-school popularity contest, cheap fast-food driven design process and a 'what have you done for me lately' atmosphere. It's expected that everyone eats lunch together at the same time. Every day. Together. Don't be surprised if you are asked to join in on a team rendition of "Kumbaya" as the senior managers who feel threatened by you are already plotting your exit.

You will be fired.

Pros

The firm does really interesting work, and some of it is even groundbreaking in terms of interactivity and engagement. The stated values are really great, as they relate to interactivity, story, design process, etc.

Cons

It seems like everyone who leaves ESI is fired. They seem to fire everyone. Watch your back. You'll likely be next. I actually heard one employee there say that he liked working somewhere where he could reasonably expect to be fired at any moment. I didn't.

Deeply Dysfunctional

Pros

Some very bright people there, and a handful of talented and nice ones. Intellectually stimulating environment - they invest in thought leadership. The projects are interesting - a niche area, but sadly most don't move past concept.

Cons

Infighting, politics and a long history of one man running the show have made it very difficult for this company to modernize and stay relevant. Too much talk, not enough action. Overly academic. Monoculture of people from ITP. Management very controlling. Principal designer has final say in all creative and undermines creative team, making their whole effort feel pointless and creative sub par. Teams must manage for him and for the client. Very difficult for an outsider to penetrate the culture. And a few really bitchy and toxic people poison the environment.
