Pros

The Springfield office culture was excellent. Nice people who are good at their jobs. Employees generally care about their work and are technically successful. Family friendly workplace. Pay and benefits are decent.

Cons

Recent high level management changes have been a bad experience. NSS has had 2 new division VPs in the past few years, each a downgrade on the previous leader. Current leadership lacks understanding of the business and has run off many of the best project managers and top technical performers. Each group is expected to do it's own business development with minimal support at a division level. All of NSS shares one business developer, leading to many missed opportunities. BD resources are focused on not losing existing work in stagnant areas instead of growing the business. Office culture is changing for the worse. Much of the new work is offsite so the main campus is a ghost town. Senior people are leaving rapidly. Senior corporate management is well meaning but indecisive.

Pros

Can-do attitude. Smart coworkers. Great variety of tasks. Very professional team. Good ultimate purpose.

Cons

Technology and techniques used are often outdated. Long overtime hours, unpaid, because projects are consistently under-budgeted. Employees are stressed out and tired, and it shows in their lack of keeping up-to-date with new tools and engineering fields, lack of initiative, and poor documentation. Hard work and performance are seldom rewarded, but seniority is. Little opportunities to grow/ expand career-wise. To get ahead, you have to show "visibility", nevermind the hard work you put in that was not noticed by upper management.

Pros

Opportunity to work on big-name projects

Cons

Depending on the contract you're on, work-life balance can be degraded in order to meet deadlines.
