Pros
Most of the people are decent, hardworking and can have a real laugh. Office environment can be fun - table tennis on lunches, beers on Friday etc...
Cons
Directors and managers have an almost elite, untouchable status within the business - unable to take constructive ideas and criticisms from staff on board and whilst they will listen to concerns from staff, will do nothing to action them or make changes for the better. Egos run high and if you don’t fit their mould or agree with some of their principles you are made to feel somewhat like an outcast - something I witnessed numerous people experience and subsequently leave the business because of. Incentives and rewards are few and far between compared to other similar businesses and are changed on the whims of the Directors at the drop of a hat. Promises are made to hard working consultants and forgotten about 6 months later, only to be replaced with ever more unrealistic and over ambitious plans and promises which never come to fruition - unfortunately too many young and impressionable employees believe these and are strung along without ever experiencing any real progression or career development. Once consultants wise up after 2/3 years, they generally leave ECS, meaning their turnover of staff is constantly high. Salaries across the business are well below average and they offset this by making promises on how much commission you will earn - unfortunately their commission structure is no better than the wider industry and in many ways worse. You are made to feel guilty for asking for a minimal pay rise - even after exceeding your yearly sales targets - despite all of upper management driving around in flashy cars and wearing expensive watches. Flexible working non existent and staff are made to feel that they lack commitment if they arrive on time and leave on time. Sales/business development team are egotistical and incapable, very little new business comes through the door and as they are pally with the directors are very rarely held accountable for poor performance. Training is non existent. Career progression is non existent, but this is masked by constantly changing peoples roles to give the illusion of additional responsibility.
