Pros

- Doblin’s projects, budgets and clients are of a very high caliber and have the potential to result in great work. I’ve never had opportunities such as these to work on projects that truly have a global and meaningful impact. - Huge opportunity for designers to learn a more strategy focused approach - Amazing opportunities to collaborate with other areas of Deloitte in cross-functions deliveries (and I’ve seen these do well), and learn cross-functional skills in the process

Cons

- No culture or community (we don’t have any space, time, budget or commitment to create a community. Most people work remotely Mon-Thurs and from home in Fri) - ~70% travel (this is often BAU travel 3-4 days a week regardless of any real need for relocation) - Hours range from project to project but when travelling most people work 9am till midnight with 1-2 hours for dinner - No room for progressive or innovative thinking due to under-scoping of time and resources on projects. The project sweat-shop model is not conducive to creating good, innovative human centred design work

Pros

- pioneer in user-centered design innovation developing some industry-leading methods - Ten Types of Innovation framework still relevant and useful tool

Cons

- losing its core design innovation capabilities and turning into a management consultancy - low to no involvement from Doblin legacy employees with many leaving on an almost daily basis - former Monitor leaders now in charge and don't have knowledge, experience or appreciation for design - COO is clueless and tries to present a positive spin on everything - behind the curve when it comes to design research

Pros

-Deloitte definitely unlocks access to major clients across industries-- usually at a level of client-side executive sponsorship that makes true transformation a possibility. -With the right project format and management, there's no question that Human Centered Design can radically improve a client's approach and offerings; it's gratifying to see your work change the way big players make influential choices in the real world. -The team! It's an interdisciplinary team of people who care about HCD and making a positive impact in the world, with a smaller number of legacy people who really know the HCD discipline inside out

Cons

-Everyone is stretched too thin, and the effects of that are felt all the way down the chain of command. Though people genuinely care about each other, the demands of client work always take precedence over building a meaningful and supportive community. Mentors are not given space to build meaningful relationships with junior team members; junior team members are not consistently integrated with any level of hands-on guidance. -Though it's great to learn from members of other parts of the Deloitte team, cross-functional teams often tackle poorly defined "hybrid" projects where HCD + the core Doblin approach becomes a component of a bigger project; unfortunately, this often compromises the integrity of the work, or steamrolls it altogether -Subsequent lack of clarity about quality expectations for deliverables, and a blurring of boundaries for what Doblin team members are responsible for
