It all went down hill

Pros

-Amazing collaborative culture when I first started. We had ownership over our work and management seemed to listen to what we were saying. We had plenty of holidays and it was just an overall fun place to work. My co-workers were the best I ever worked with. Open, honest, personable. I can't say anything negative about them. -Pay and benefits were good when I was there

Cons

-Things started to go downhill towards the end of 2021. Some key leaders in R&D left, leaving a power vacuum. Following this, things changed. Senior management increasingly started to play favorites, giving better opportunities and promotions to whom they preferred. -Politics and examining "how late people stayed in office" were pervasive. Things escalated even further as time went, culminating in multiple rounds of layoffs in 2022 and 2023 where the "favorites" continued to consolidate power in an increasingly smaller enterprise (bigger fish, smaller pond). Goal-setting got exclusively top-down without rationale with no input from anyone except 2-3 people. I have no idea how they will continue as a business. -CEO came from Silicon Valley and basically tried to make us a tech company in biotech, which was a disaster. Science moves differently! Company had no direction at one point -No opportunity for advancement if senior management does not favor you

Pros

A work space with amazing, smart, driven individuals. Had a lot of autonomy over my work and direction. Began as a really great company that cared for their employees but that has changed.

Cons

Over the two years I worked at Detect, the company culture and values declined a lot. The first year was honestly the best place I have ever worked. Great work life balance, amazing opportunities and areas of growth/learning, and a place I felt so strongly about I brought multiple people into the company. A lot of the benefits of working here were taken away. It used to be customer centered while raising up and encouraging their employees. By the time I left it became a "boys" club. Only a select few actually have a voice (aka whoever could talk over everyone the most or be the loudest), they got rid of company holidays that were beneficial for parents, and other benefits that drew me to Detect. I wouldn't be surprised if this continues. I'd just be cautious of what they may be promising you. They promised us a 20% bonus, kept pushing this off for months, and at the end of the day we never saw any of it. They say their pay is great and you won't find it elsewhere but let me tell you, I have.

Horrible culture

Pros

Salary was good and benefits was excellent

Cons

Horrible work culture with coworkers showing passive aggressive behavior. They do not value real talent, does not know how to spend or make money as an enterprise and does not have clear goals. The management suffers from lack of experience and setting a good example. The managers do not provide clear directions and every week it’s a new priority. The management needs lot of lessons on how to work put their ego aside and actually run the company with experienced people who actually knows what they are doing. It was my worst decision to join Detect.
