Pros

For the right person there are good opportunities to advance your career in the hotel industry. Despite this overall negative review, I will give them credit that they're making efforts to improve culture, work/life balance, etc.

Cons

- High stress, heavy workload (throughout the corporate office) - Low trust, lots of scrutiny ("big brother" vibe) - Unclear expectations and lack of prioritization (in my particular role) - Micromanagement (in my particular role) - Low morale, poor work/life balance (heads-down, grind-it-out vibe) - Top heavy org chart (lots of upper management) - Lack of consistency in systems, procedures and resources (herding cats) - Ineffective onboarding process (sink or swim approach) - Decidedly not a 21st century workplace (old-school policies and procedures)

Brutal Regime

Pros

Excellent place if you like living a lie and being treated poorly while getting paid nothing. I have such fond memories of watching fellow employees happily being subjected to MVL propaganda. You must glorify the supreme leader at all times. Expect to be interrogated if the regime thinks you're disloyal.

Cons

Drunk drivers... Bizarre place to work

Look elsewhere for morale

Pros

Like all hotel networks, Destination gave great discounts if you wanted to stay at another property.

Cons

Everything else. I had worked at a hotel for five years before the Destination Hotels management company took over. The resort was going under-- and for good reason-- the company had suffered years of mismanagement. And yet, when Destination came along, they made matters much worse. In the beginning, the outlook was good: they were reinstating 401K and health benefits; they were bringing in professional consultants to revamp the infrastructure, etc. Where they failed was the actual implementation of The Plan. I have never dealt with so many unhappy guests in my life. I worked in one of the food and beverage outlets. It was an everyday occurrence that the front desk would botch something and offer a free meal or drinks. The food and beverage outlets were flooded with comp guests; it was basically our job at the outlets to appease their anger. I spent much of my time trying to calm people down. Behind the scenes, employee morale was pretty low. On the positive side, the mutual disgust with the way Destination does business bonded hotel employees across departments. I don't need to go into specifics; reviews of their properties take a dive once Destination gets involved. I encourage you to read the reviews before considering working for this company.
