      Is DemandTec a Saas company or a consultant company?

      Pros

      1) great coworkers 2) friendly people 3) free snacks and drink

      Cons

      1) clear lack of engineering direction or leadership 2) constant change of features priority 3) short sighted band-aid work to please customer instead of focusing on finding a real solution 4) lack of respect for engineering work since the company is run by a bunch of professional service consultant people 5) Lack of cross functional team coordination and cooperation. 6) Upper management has their favorite sons or daughter that will always get rewarded regardless of performance.

      Pros

      Don't get the DemandTec of today confused with IBM's DemandTec (the dark ages)! Since carving out from IBM, leadership has brought renewed excitement and a strong, differentiating vision to our products. The solid, ongoing investment has shown a regular stream of product enhancements and employees who are reinvigorated to work for DemandTec, knowing all the while there was so much potential! We are steadily regaining our market strength even through what's been a tough year for retailers and I'm excited to see what the future has in store for DemandTec!

      Cons

      The initial switchover from IBM was a little bumpy, but things have really smoothed out over the past year. DemandTec sometimes gets caught in Acoustic's marketing cloud communications, which could be confusing to employees with particular initiatives, but they're working on it and have made some improvements!

      Lack of vision and competence from management

      Pros

      DemandTec possesses some key knowledge and asset that could make it a good company. Its core competency in modeling and key customers put it in a decent position to be transformational in its field.

      Cons

      However, the management lacks vision and execution capability. Senior management is mostly consisted of consulting folks trying to run a software development company. Number of executive decisions has resulted in disasters that resulted in scapegoats and finger pointing. The amount of politics within the company is quite a lot for the size of the company. The company is so fiscally conservative that it doesn't pay employees enough. As a result, now that the economy is turning around that good people are leaving.
