Pros

I really liked the small team that I worked on. I have no complaints at all here. We worked super well together. I worked with other groups as well and have no outstanding qualms about them.

Cons

The company was always disorganized and all over the place. The higher-ups "attempted" to have open communication but failed to do so. They recently went through a major layoff and went about it terribly. Maddison, the CEO failed to acknowledge the layoffs and made many people confused as to what was happening in the week following the layoffs. The projects were always scattered and were getting cancelled or changed on a weekly basis.

Pros

If you are able to negotiate the base salary could be decent - but there aren't any other exciting incentives.

Cons

- Terrible benefits (such as no 401k match) - Stock options are a joke. Not sure why they bother. - Company culture is toxic. People with zero management experience are managing teams, but are looking out for their own agendas. There's a lot of gaslighting, and unless you are in the inner club you will experience surprising decisions each day (that could very well impact your day-to-day). - The founders are married - so essentially their vote is just one vote. There is no clear guideline or strategic direction from the management's perspective (hiring and firing seem like a norm). The heads of various departments (like hardware & software) don't really know what it takes to build the product/instrument and deadlines are always being pushed back. This results in finger-pointing and people being pushed under the bus creating a dreadful, unhealthy atmosphere.

Thank you for reviewing your time at Deepcell. We are sorry to hear your experience was not as favorable as others', and hopefully you were able to provide this feedback directly to the People team or leadership team as an employee, so that specific examples of what you reference may be shared and investigated. Deepcell is an early-stage start-up that is passionately led by its cofounders. There is an incredible story unfolding as the company scales and reaches new heights. Of course, start-up life is not easy and our road to success is never going to be a straight line. There will continue to be iterations to our strategic path, and not all of those decisions will be welcomed by everybody the same way. One major benefit of start-up life is that everyone hired into the company is given an opportunity to drive change and shape culture; and an even greater benefit is the opportunity for organic growth as the company strives to promote from within. Deepcell is proud to provide its people with the opportunity to step into management roles to advance their careers, and invests heavily (and takes seriously) the development of its managers. As of this month, Deepcell is proud to have revamped a number of its benefits offerings and providers, and looks forward to continue to expand on them as we grow.

Pros

Close to my house Safe office AI aspects are interesting

Cons

The founders are married and so you have two bosses neither of whom have any leadership experience or capability So much time is wasted on doing everything yourself instead of hiring. It slows development down
