A Benign Cult

Pros

- Free food/drinks - Relaxed atmosphere and lots of extra space per employee - Extra-curricular activities after hours - Moderately empowers employees to take chances

Cons

- Few opportunities for growth. CEO openly proclaims that he does not believe in bonuses or promotion opportunities. You should always be doing your life's work regardless. - Cult-like atmosphere; hours can vary but more often then not people spend 10-12 hours per day in the office - "Unlimited" vacation is a misnomer. It still needs to be approved and rarely does anything above a week get approved. Unlimited vacation is simply a way for them to not pay unused vacation days when you are laid off. - Vista Equity Partners - Since the acquisition, the company has gone into cash-hoarding mode, laying dozens of employees off at a time in order to pad the wallets of their acquirers as well as the exec team. Your utility to Datto lasts only if you can help with that mission.

Pros

free food and drink, great benefits

Cons

This job was my life and I constantly went MORE than above and beyond for Datto every single day, loved by the entire office, tons and tons of positive shout-outs and recommendations from even C Level Executives and laid off with literally ZERO notice and ZERO explanation from the HR and Legal department. I would understand letting waste go but this is not the case. The CEO/Founder SWORE nothing would change after they sold and merged, "always standing up for the employees" promising "nothing would change because thats not who Datto is" boy was I wrong, but why pay someone X amount if you can fire them, keep that X and just make the rest of the team pick up the slack, I get it, its business...My director walked me to the HR area and on the walk there was buttering me up, asking me what I was working on that week, how things were going overall just to be walked into a room and let go minutes later, such a snake move. never EVER thought Datto would do this to me and 30+ other people. Really disappointing. I thought I found my forever career :( Good luck and much love to the remaining employees!

Pros and Cons of life with Datto

Pros

The people who work there are some of the best I've worked with in the industry. There's plenty of outings, nice parties, a fun atmosphere. The culture is unlike any company I've been at before. The nature of the company and the industry are what make it so individual. They can really boost your confidence and make you seem like a 'super hero'. When the technical training is available, it is very good too. A lot of learning opportunity there.

Cons

I was severely disappointed at how the company handles employee termination. I will say, this is an at-will employment site, and nothing they did was illegal. I was working on an experimental project with the goal set by management that it would become a department. They fire employees but won't tell them anything, so you have nothing to know what to improve on when you leave. I was told I didn't fit within the company anymore, after giving years of hard work. I was denied going back into my old position, although they are now actively hiring for it. I was ensured that I had no performance issues or attendance issues, and have yet to hear why I was terminated, although I have inquired a few times. I have also seen employees submit ideas that are then given to someone else, and the credit is not given. The CEO has literally screamed at the top of his lungs at employees, in the middle of the office, as well as berate them in front of the board for this company.
