Pros

- An exciting, proven, industry changing concept - super fast manufacturing of custom walls, electrical, cabinets and more using 3d design software and environmentally sustainable methods. Feels awesome to contribute to something no other company can do. - Never just a 9-5 job. Get to solve real problems and see tangible results. Very fulfilling. - Flat structure means you can grow and move within the company depending on your interests and aptitude. - Work with brilliant people who are passionate too. - Great perks - breakfast and lunch, pub nights, flexible hours.

Cons

- Sink or swim. No one cares about you unless you're doing something attention-worthy. No appreciation for the steady hard workers. - Flat structure means the "management" in place have no leadership skills and lack accountability. Don't have a mentality of responsibility, just of keeping their own heads above water. Terrible trickle-down effect, etc. - Hours are flexible, but there is no compensation for overtime, not even lieu time. And there is a lot of overtime. - Benefits aren't competitive with Calgary corporate standards. - Calgary office is open concept but the CEO refuses to expand as staff increases. Literally crammed in elbow-to-elbow. - Lot of people have been there too long. At the beginning they lived and breathed innovation and risk. Now they live and breath we-always-do-it-this-way. This combined with passive aggressive management and no interest in mentoring or developing new hires means turnover of valuable people. - Every exec and director have strong personalities and quirks - no balance. They feed off each other's lack of focus and no initiatives of substance get implemented in a profitable way. COO is the exception - very smart but brash management style. - I'd only recommend DIRTT to people who are ambitious and thick-skinned. It needs serious steering before it gets back on course.

Pros

Great culture. The people that work for DIRTT are hard working, ambitious and fun. It's a very collaborative and team player type of atmosphere. The owner of the company takes care of his employees by providing delicious hot lunches, annual retreats, social nights once a week, and a fitness incentive program. DIRTT is also a huge supporter of charities and worthy causes and frequently sponsors races and environmental events.

Cons

Although the people that work there are wonderful people, sometimes "wonderful" people do not make great managers. There is no structure at DIRTT. That leads to no personal evaluations, which leads to not many raises. Although the company boasts advancement within the company, promises are made and suddenly "forgotten". At moment of hire, I was promised four weeks of vacation once I hit my 5 year mark. However, once I reached that mark, I was told that no one gets four weeks vacation. I was also promised a position in my department of choice once an opening was available, but again, management does not remember once the time came. As with any office, there are politics. Management will promote each other and hire their friends regardless of qualifications or skill level. There is not enough collaboration between departments or support so there is a lot of needless duplication of work and documents. The company is anti-structure which is great for a go-getter type of mentality, however it leads to a lot of chaos and scrambling, and creative types that come up with great ideas but show no appreciation for the individuals that do all the hard work that make it happen. DIRTT can also be a boys club. Sexist jokes are made all the time but are mostly fun and games. However this mentality can keep a female from getting an appropriate pay raise. Depending on who your manager is, a woman may not get a raise based on the fact that she cannot make more than the manager's significant other. Do not take this the wrong way. The OWNER is an amazing and considerate man, albeit a firecracker with extremely high expectations. It is the management of the company that has made key employees incredibly jaded and the cause for high turnover in the company.

Pros

Good pay and benefits, and some neat perks. Schedule gives for plenty of time off each week. Lunch provided each day.

Cons

Worst management ever encountered in my career history. Employees are treated like disposable parts, but that is most companies, I guess. There are more issues with the team "leaders" experienced in the time with this company then there is space provided here.
