Pros

some great people, nice office

Cons

Total dog and pony show. They say what they want you to hear/need to say to make it look like a great place to work. I cannot speak for other departments, but for a department that turns over about 13-17 people with a year screams UPPER MANAGEMENT FAILURE. They play favorites and if you don't fit into their idea of what they want you to be (cut throat, pretentious, brown-nosing) then they find a way to get rid of you. Lack of communication is enormous. Then the lower-on-the-totem-poles get the blame for managements lack of direction and clarity. The lack of HR's and the president's acknowledgment of this continued issue in the marketing depts upper management, shows that they only care about the bottom line over and over. It had so much potential. I was so disappointed in how things really ran there. I now have zero respect for every individual in that Marketing departments management. The lack of decency and respect for their employees shows in each of their true character. Very glad I am now removed from being in that environment.

Pros

If you are a recent grad or have 1 or 2 years experience and are looking for some very basic tactical downstream marketing experience with little strategic thought, and you live close by, then you might give it a go for a year or two.

Cons

If you are an experienced marketer looking for a company where you can make an impact, have access to performance numbers, a career path, professional development, and want to be respected within the organization....then RUN AS THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU! Cynosure is a revolving door for experienced marketers because everyone soon realizes the leadership for marketing is the lap dog for sales and there is no true leadership in the department. Marketing is not respected within the organization and the company tries to say they move quickly in "Cynosure Time" to cover the fact no one does any planning. Compensation is below average and the benefits as well. The "story" sounds good while interviewing, but the company has a terrible reputation amongst recruiters. Read the other reviews and you will see a consistent theme. There is definitely a "the emperor has no clothes" situation on what is told to the senior leadership and marketing leadership manages up to make sure the senior team has no idea of what really happens in the department.

Pros

I can't think of a single one.

Cons

Leadership is horrible; most are not qualified to lead. Can't recognize talent - it is all about who likes you. The department that I worked in was lead by a glorified admin who was a tyrant. She caused drama, was nasty (may even be a sociopath), and treated high level employees like dirt. Those who were less talented and less capable than her were always rewarded; if a person in the department was well liked, praised, experienced - she was threatened and made it almost unbearable to work for her. I can't even begin to quantify the number of unethical, illegal, and discriminatory practices that took place during my time there. It is shocking that this person has remained in her role for as long as she has. In conversations with other employees, my experience was not unique. When problems arose, this leader would blame her direct reports - and deflect attention from the true problem: her.
