I began my role with Custom Fleet’s Registrations Team in May 2024, and I was initially enthusiastic about the opportunity. Unfortunately, my experience quickly turned negative due to severe issues with workplace behavior.
Shortly after starting, I encountered repeated verbal harassment from a long-standing employee in the Fleet Services Registrations Team. This individual, who has been with the company for approximately 17 years, has a history of offensive behavior that seems to have been overlooked due to her extensive knowledge of the job. This has created a challenging and toxic work environment where new staff members frequently leave due to the hostile atmosphere.
Despite raising concerns with management, the response has been inadequate. Leadership has suggested that those who are unable to tolerate the behavior leave, and the ones who can ignore stay. The management's stance—that they can only control people to a certain extent—has been disappointing, especially given that the employee in question appears to face no real consequences for her actions.
Based on my experience, I would advise caution to prospective candidates considering the Fleet Services Consultant role within the Registrations Team at Custom Fleet. The role may not only be challenging but could potentially damage your professional reputation. The company’s apparent reluctance to address long-standing issues with workplace harassment effectively undermines its commitment to creating a respectful and productive work environment.
In my interview, I was asked how I would handle a difficult person, but I was not prepared for the severity of harassment I encountered. It would be more beneficial for Custom Fleet to specifically inquire whether candidates can handle harassment, as this issue goes beyond mere difficulty and is a clear violation of professional conduct.
