Pros

Industry is exciting and innovative. Coworkers can be fun to work with when they stick around. Ability to develop new skills as long as the cost to company is low and schedule is not impacted.

Cons

Cost and schedule are the most important issues. Quality and customer service are far down the priority list. Heavy emphasis on outsourcing or hiring simply to fill an open position with little regard for skill set match. Kaizen process has never been considered a positive by employees. It is a "check the box" task for year end review. Turnover is extremely high but HR never seems to question why, even though most employees know the answer.

Pros

It is interesting to see the products you worked on out in the field. Vending machines are virtually everywhere. If you can get it up front, the salaries are good for the rural South Carolina area.

Cons

Absolutely the most hostile work environment I've encountered. I've seen directors and VPs go into profanity-laced tirades on employees over situations outside that employee's control. When you depart, your blood pressure will drop at least 60 points. It's as if the management culture never progressed from 1932, where the beatings will continue until morale improves. If you cannot pull off the impossible, you're treated as an idiot. If you can pull off the impossible, there will not be a word of gratitude, and it will be expected from you every single time in the future. The company has missed the boat on numerous vending opportunities. See the Best Buy vending machines in stores and at airports? Missed the ball on that one.
