Cons
My experience working at Cranbrook Schools was deeply disappointing and frustrating. The administration is unsupportive, overbearing, and often micromanages teachers to the point of absurdity. The workload is continually increasing, and the compensation does not come close to reflecting the effort and time required. The environment is extremely toxic, with an insular and cliquish atmosphere among staff. The administration is largely absent, clueless about the day-to-day realities within departments and classrooms, and utterly out of touch with the needs of teachers and students alike. They impose convoluted rules for everything, from the smallest tasks to the most significant decisions, leading to constant documentation and paperwork that consumes an unreasonable amount of time. This leaves little to no time for actual lesson preparation, severely impacting the quality of teaching. These issues are intractable, with no reasonable expectation that the situation will improve. In fact, it seems likely to get worse. The school's teacher retention is abysmal, with many educators leaving within their first one to three years due to the unbearable conditions. Overall, Cranbrook Schools is not a place I would recommend to any educator. The administration's approach to managing staff is punitive and disconnected, creating an environment that is not only unsustainable but detrimental to both teachers and students.
